Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

 

On 17-19 July 2016 an official visit of the President of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili  to the Republic of Slovenia took place. During the visit Mr. Margvelashvili met the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, the Prime Minister, Mr. Miro Cerar, the President of the National Assembly, Mr. Milan Brglez and the Mayors of Ljubljana and Piran. Also, a working lunch with the Minister of infrastructure and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia was held. Within the framework of the visit, on 18th of July 2016 between the Governments of Georgia and the Republic of Slovenia, agreements on Economic Cooperation and Short-Stay Visa Waiver for Holders of Service Passports were signed. Also, on 18th of July the first official meeting between the heads of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Georgia and the Republic of Slovenia was held. During the meeting, parties discussed the prospects for the future cooperation between the two Chambers and also discussed exchange of business delegations. The parties signed the Cooperation Memorandum between the Georgian and Slovenian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.  On 18th of July 2016 in Ljubljana, in Tbilisi street, the “Bench of Friendship” was opened.

The official ceremony of placing the Georgian qvevri in the inner courtyard of the UN Office at Geneva was held.  The Georgian Government presented the UN Office at Geneva with a qvevri, which is included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list, to mark the 70th anniversary of the UN foundation. Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Director General of the UN Office at Geneva Michael Møller addressed the attending audience. The ceremony was also attended by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister and the Kyrgyz Vice Prime Minister.

Mihael Marolt, employee of the Georgian Embassy in Ljubljana, recorded the interviews on September 25 and 29, 2015, for the Radio Val 202 and Slovenian National 3rd Radio Channel (called Radio ARS). The interviews were about origins and different stages of development of the Georgian language, alphabet, culture and its history.

The Embassy of Georgia to Slovenia made a presentation of Georgian language and alphabet in the framework of the Week of European Languages organized by the European Commission Represantation to Ljubljana on September 22, 2015. Slovenian school pupils and other audience present at the scene (including the media) were given the information about the history of Georgia and the origin and different stages of development of Georgian language.

Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania, by the invitation of Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic, visited Slovenia on September 18-19, 2015. The Renewed Agreement on Twinning between the cities of Tbilisi and Ljubljana was signed during the visit. The document provides for more active co-operation in the fields of education, culture, health care, economy, sports, social policy and other areas. David Narmania made an entry to the Ljubljana City Hall's "Golden Book".

On March 31, 2015, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Zurab Bekaia held a meeting with Mr. Zdravko Pochivarshek, Minister of Economic Development and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia. The meeting focused on the development and intensification of bilateral economic relations between Slovenia and Georgia, issues on exchanging visits of government agencies and business representatives of between the two countries as well.

On March 6, 2015, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Zurab Bekaia held a meeting with Mrs. Vesna Jiorko Jnidar, Minister of Internal of the Republic of Slovenia. The sides discussed activation of the bilateral relations between Georgia and Slovenia and to enhance issues on cooperation between Interior Ministries of the two countries. As well as the meeting focused on the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan (VLAP) between EU and Georgia and its implementation.

On December 18, 2014, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Zurab Bekaia held a meeting with Mr. Dejan Židan, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food of the Republic of Slovenia. The sides discussed the bilateral relations between Georgia and Slovenia in the field of agriculture and the activation of the cooperation between the relevant state and private authorities of possible future cooperation.

On December 16, 2014, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Zurab Bekaia held a meeting with Mrs. Julijana Bizjan Mlakar, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. The meeting focused on the bilateral cultural cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Slovenia and to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and art issues. Accordingly, possibility of organizing of Georgian and Slovenian cultural days.

On December 12, 2014 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Zurab Bekaia held a meeting with Mr. Peter Gašperšič, the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral economic relations between Georgia and Slovenia, relevant state bodies, as well as representatives of the two countries to boost cooperation between businesses and exchange of visits. Slovenian side began to work in the field of signing road transport agreement between Georgia and Slovenia. The Georgian side raised the issue regarding  possibility of direct air flights between Slovenia and Georgia. This issue was fully supported by the Minister of Infrastructure, he expressed readiness for joint work.
